No game had ever given me the same sense of accomplishment as Dark Souls III, and I still haven’t found a game to top that experience to this day.Īnd as the fandom continues to grow, there are a number of mods that enhance the experience even further. I defeated the Lords of Cinder and linked the first flame. But countless frustrating hours and deaths later, I finally did it. It took me a while to get into the series to be honest. Those tales came with stories of controllers being thrown and destroyed, rage and salt compilations all over YouTube, and that mocking “ You Died” death screen. I remember the first time I heard about Dark Souls. Or maybe DS2 players are just better, more considerate people.Known as being one of the toughest games out there, it’s easy to be intimidated by the Dark Souls series. So in some way soul memory actually helped. In 2 you can do your jolly cooperation, while in the others you basically have to sit around, wait for that random idiot to show up and then actually get going before the invasion cooldown runs out.
In 3, you get poked by endless spear thrusts and then you get five hits in and then your stamina runs out and the other guy takes one step back and heals, and somehow always has 20 estus flasks.
In 1, you get ganked by a random idiot wearing endgame+ gear and killing you with a single greatsword swing or magic attack, alternatively lagstabbed. Plus, for some reason co-op is plentiful in all three games but invasions are fucking hell in 1 and 3. DS2 and 3 added tons of quality of life features to this. When doing co-op runs with friends, DS1 is also kind of a mess, since it was never intended to have specific people to co-op with and more like Journey just picking up random fellow adventurers, not to mention that many areas can't be co-oped. DS1 is the better game but I'd still rather replay DS2 because there's more distinct builds to play around with.
